MEET AUSTIN
Hi, I am Austin Davis! I have helped hundreds of people
just like you lose or maintain their weight, get fit and find just
the right balance of exercise, food intake and motivation to make
healthy new habits that last a lifetime.
Like most people, I did not appreciate
my good health until I faced losing it. You see, I got into the
fitness
business literally
by accident…a skydiving accident.
Until my accident, I was just your
average former stand up comedian (I have opened for acts as diverse
as Jay Leno and Wayne Newton)
who, after a comedy career, became a commissioned Police officer
(turns out the world hates a funny cop!). I then combined stand
up and police work into my own crime prevention business, www.davisseminars.com,
where I was a consultant and speaker about security. I was
a self employed professional speaker/trainer to every type
of group imaginable,
including large corporations, small businesses and Law Enforcement
agencies, logging in well over 3000 paid seminars in about
15 years.
Life was good, free time abundant
and skydiving a passion.
Then, on June 6th 2002, the hard opening parachute accident left
me pretty banged up and with the hard-earned knowledge that my
insurance company did not like skydivers.
I hurt all over, all the time. As you can probably
imagine, once you start to live with pain, you do not want to
move much. It is
easy to settle in to the habit of not moving. Add to that lack
of movement the addition of some poor eating habits, and you can
gain a lot of weight fast. I packed on over 40 pounds in a matter
of months. Each pound I gained made me hurt more, move less and
eat more...a seriously bad cycle to which I’m sure all too
many can personally relate.
I came to the realization that something had to
change for good because my quality of life was getting to be
so bad. That was when
I got serious about the study of eating, exercise and motivation
to rehabilitate myself totally. I read a lot of books on fitness,
eating and health only to figure out that no one really agrees
on anything. I went to “Professional Trainers” and
found that they did not agree with each other either. I wasted
a lot of time and effort going the wrong way on my own. Not knowing
what to do, having the feeling that diets made the problem worse
and the fact that exercise hurt, it was a struggle to maintain
the efforts to help myself. Nothing seemed to be working.
I quickly became truly confused as what to do to get my eating,
weight, and exercise under control, and desperate to find the motivation
to keep the eating and fitness in line. Over time, I learned--through
trial and error-- that the problem was not the weight, but rather
the habits that supported the weight!!!! Trust me the weight is
just a symptom!
I made real strides in
figuring out why so much of what we do to lose weight and get
in shape are the very things keeping us from
getting fit. Let’s face it, diets don’t work,
exercise alone will not make you lean or healthy and motivation
to keep
it up will falter, so we better have a plan for when it does
so you do not fall too far off the wagon.
I studied hard and passed my personal trainers license exam from
the American Council on Exercise. Through my studies, things started
coming together to show me the simplest way to help almost anyone
get leaner, stronger and far more focused on permanent, positive
change.
I started to train my first three clients for free.
I made those first three brave souls promise not to openly promote
my training
in any way, but just hand out my card to anyone who complimented
them on their obviously beneficial new habits. Within six weeks,
a lot of cards got handed out. The phone started ringing, e-mails
began to pour in and Fit & Funny seminars began filling up
as well. By about my eighth week, my schedule was filled with personal
training clients, just because of word of mouth about my results
with a variety of people, body types and goals. My style of blending
my stand up comedy with the reality-based Police trainer background
helped lead to the success, and Fit and Funny was born.
Since I could not possibly train all of the people who wanted
me to work with them, I developed a 12 week program. The 12 week
Fit and Funny program was a way to get as many people on the path
to self mastery of their eating habits, fitness commitment and
goal-setting as possible. I trained many amazing people who dedicated
themselves to improving their habits and are still dialed in to
their personal fitness lifestyles to this day.
That combination of a fun easy environment combined
with real world positive results got me a contract position to
be the only
fitness trainer for the staff of The Methodist Hosptial in the
world famous Texas Medical Center. For 9 months, I trained doctors,
nurses and staff on a one-on-one basis in the wellness center.
My results in that setting led to my being asked to pioneer the
position of “The Fitness Specialist” for the Methodist
Medical Weight Loss program, a contract position I still hold.
In January of 2007, Dr. Garth Davis (no relation)
contacted me and asked me to be the fitness specialist for The
Learning Channel’s
reality medical show “Big Medicine”. The show deals
with bariatric surgery patients, before during and after their
surgical procedures. I gladly accepted the challenge, and have
worked with some amazing people in the show.
My journey back to recovered health was tough, and it forced me
to really take a look at what is important in life. I returned
to skydiving in September 2006 and today actively jump every chance
I get. I still give an occasional crime class or two, both things
I would not be able to continue doing if I had not made a serious
commitment to my health. But my true passion is in helping stop
the epidemic of obesity in this country in a fun, practical and
non-threatening way through live seminars and video instruction.
Please know that no matter what your weight, your challenges to
moving more or your hope for more motivation to change, I have
dealt with it before and can help you work through any roadblock.
With a little guidance, you, too, can begin to change your life
for the better and learn to embrace and truly care for yourself.
You deserve the very best person you can be, and I want to help
you make your dreams a daily reality.
